What is mig welding?

MIG is short for Metal Inert Gas (MIG). It is also known as gas metal arc welding (GMAW). This type of welding is basically an arc welding process that joins two metals. This is done by heating the metals with the help of an arc. This arc is formed between the surface to be welded and a continuously fed with a filler electrode. This type of welding uses a shielding gas to protect the molten pool of weld metal from reacting with elements present in the atmosphere.

IS MY PROJECT a MIG PROJECT?

MIG welding is the most commonly used welding process and can be used to weld almost any metal. This process is fast and cost efficient for most projects. MIG welds are great, if not perfect for most projects in the automotive industry.

The metals that are most commonly used with this process include stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum, with carbon steel being the easiest metal to MIG weld.

Outside of the automotive industry, some of the most used applications of MIG welding are sheet metal and pipe welding.

mig welding quality

The use of MIG welding is highly preferred for all  many reasons – including high-quality welds for non-ferrous and ferrous alloys at a fairly low price. It is associated with many benefits: You can be sure that this process will provide durability for many types of welds, no matter the thickness or type of metal used.
